When the Houston and Texas Central Railroad Company first came through this region of Texas in 1860, they did not know they were starting on the future spot of one of the state’s most cherished cities, Bryan. At this time, the area was referred to as Millican and was a vital distribution center for freight and Confederate troops throughout the Civil War. That same year, a young man by the name of William Joel Bryan, sold a single square-mile tract in a townsite north of Millican to railroad directors Abram Groesbeck and W.R. Baker. The $3,200 purchase would soon become a full-fledged city serving the railway, its employees and its passengers. The site of the town was named "Bryan" in William Joel Bryan's honor, a name that has stuck with this fine city since. Since those beginning days, Bryan has gone through many changes and reinventions. Today’s Bryan is a community of concerned residents, caring neighbors and a brighter generation.
Bryan is known throughout the region and the world as a place where relaxation and comfort of their citizens are among the highest priority, residential and visiting guests. In Bryan itself, there are a number of different outdoor escapes available to enjoy.
